UAE citizens with ordinary passports do not need a visa to travel to Japan, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation. Starting from 1st November, 2022, UAE passport holders can stay in Japan for up to 30 days for tourism or work. This is without submitting an application at the Embassy of Japan in Abu Dhabi, applying for an exemption, or paying any fees.

UAE and Japan to launch visa-free travel on November 1Japanese entry requirements remain the same, according to the Ministry, such as ensuring the passport is valid for at least six months, providing a negative COVID-19 PCR test result 72 hours before departure, or providing a certificate proving the traveller has taken at least three doses of vaccinations approved by Japan, such as Pfizer BioNTech, Moderna, AstraZeneca, or Sinopharm.

A Comprehensive Strategic Partnership was also signed between the UAE and Japan, with Dr. Sultan bin Ahmed Al Jaber, the UAE’s Minister of Industry and Advanced Technology, and Yoshimasa Hayashi, the Japanese Foreign Minister, signing both documents. Cooperation on trade, investment, diplomatic, economic, and political matters is an important objective of the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership. More than 340 Japanese companies operate in various industries in the UAE, which ranks as Japan’s tenth largest trading partner in the world.
